DVD: DAFFY DUCK CARTOON C;LASSICS

(8 CARTOONS)

Daffy Duck is an animated cartoon character produced by Warner Bros. He has appeared in cartoon series such as Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, where he usually has been depicted as the best friend and occasional arch-rival of Bugs Bunny. Daffy was one of the first of the new "screwball" characters that emerged in the late 1930s to replace traditional everyman characters who were more popular earlier in the decade[citation needed], such as Mickey Mouse and Popeye. Daffy starred in 133 shorts in the golden age, making him the third-most frequent character in the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons, behind Bugs Bunny's 166 appearances and Porky Pig's 159 appearances.

Daffy was number 14 on TV Guide's list of top 50 best cartoon characters[1] and was featured on one of the issue's four covers as Duck Dodgers with Porky Pig and the Powerpuff Girls (all of which are Time Warner-owned characters).[2]

DVD: LITTLE LULU CARTOON CLASSICS

(8 CARTOONS)

"Little Lulu" is the nickname for Lulu Moppett, a comic strip character created in the mid-1930s by Marjorie Henderson Buell. The character debuted in The Saturday Evening Post on 23 February 1935 in a single panel, appearing as a flower girl at a wedding and strewing the aisle with banana peels. Little Lulu replaced Carl Anderson's Henry, which had been picked up for distribution by King Features Syndicate. The Little Lulu panel continued to run weekly in The Saturday Evening Post until 30 December 1944.

In the 1940s, Lulu appeared in a series of theatrical animated shorts produced by Famous Studios for Paramount Pictures from 1943 to 1948, which replaced the Superman shorts of the 1940s. In all, 26 Little Lulu cartoons were released in a period of less than five years. A similar character, Little Audrey, was then created after Paramount failed to renew the Lulu license (and therefore avoided the payment of royalty fees).[7] The voice of Little Lulu was performed by Cecil Roy[8] and Tubby was Arnold Stang.

The theme song for the shorts was written by Buddy Kaye, Fred Wise, and Sidney Lippman.

In the early-1960s, Paramount and Famous Studios produced two new Little Lulu cartoons, Alvin's Solo Flight (a Noveltoon) in 1961 and Frog's Legs (a Comic Kings cartoon) in 1962, but unlike the 1940s cartoons, Arnold Stang didn't do Tubby's voice.

DVD: 9 VAN BEUREN CARTOON CLASSICS VOL. 2

(ONE HOUR OF PROGRAMMING)

The Van Beuren Studios was an American animation studio that produced theatrical cartoons from 1928 to 1936.

Producer Amedee J. Van Beuren first became involved in the animation industry in 1920, when he formed a partnership with Paul Terry and formed the "Aesop's Fables Studio" for the production of the Aesop's Film Fables cartoon series. van Beuren released Terry's first sound cartoon Dinner Time (1928) through Pathé Exchange which later became part of RKO. Terry ran the animation studio while van Beuren focused on other parts of the business. In 1929, Terry quit to start his own Terrytoons studio and John Foster took over the animation department. It was at this time that the Fables Studio became the Van Beuren Studio.

Van Beuren released his films through RKO Radio Pictures. The early sound Van Beuren cartoons are almost identical to the late silent cartoons: highly visual, with little dialogue and occasional sound effects. Bandleaders Gene Rodemich and Winston Sharples supervised the music. The company's main cartoon characters were "Tom and Jerry", a tall-and-short pair, usually vagrants who attempted various occupations. They share no relation to MGM's more successful Tom and Jerry, a cat and mouse, and the older series has been renamed "Van Beuren's Tom and Jerry" and "Dick and Larry" in various future incarnations. Van Beuren was keenly aware that successful cartoons often featured animated "stars," and urged his staff to come up with new ideas for characters. Cubby, a mischievous little bear, resulted.

Van Beuren remained unsatisfied, and agreed to license the popular comic-strip character The Little King and radio's hottest comedy act, Amos 'n' Andy to adapt into animated form. Strangely, neither series was successful. Van Beuren then hired Walt Disney Director Burt Gillett and Animator Tom Palmer to create a new series of color cartoons. These handsome "Rainbow Parade" cartoons featured established characters: Felix the Cat, Parrotville Parrots, Molly Moo Cow, and the Toonerville Trolley gang.

DVD: TOM & JERRY CARTOON CLASSICS

(9 CARTOONS.  NOTE: NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE CAT AND MOUSE TOM & JERRY. SEE BELOW.))

Tom and Jerry are fictional characters that starred in a series of early sound cartoons produced by the Van Beuren Studios, and distributed by RKO Pictures. The series lasted from 1931 to 1933. When Official Films purchased the Van Beuren library in the 1950s, the characters were renamed Dick and Larry to avoid confusion with Tom and Jerry, the famous MGM cartoon series of the '40s and '50s. Today, animation historians refer to the characters as Van Beuren's Tom and Jerry. Today, all of these cartoons are in the public domain.[citation needed]

Joseph Barbera began his career as an animator and storyman on this series. In 1940, Barbera co-created with William Hanna another duo of cartoon characters using the same names: a cat and mouse named Tom and Jerry.

DVD: CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST CARTOON CLASSICS

(3 CARTOONS)

Casper the Friendly Ghost is the protagonist of the Famous Studios theatrical animated cartoon series of the same name. As his name indicates, he is a ghost, yet he is quite personable.[1] According to the 1995 feature film Casper, his family name is McFadden, making his "full" name Casper McFadden.

Casper was created in the late 1930s by Seymour Reit and Joe Oriolo, the former devising the idea for the character and the latter providing illustrations.[3] Intended initially as the basis for a 1939 children's storybook, there was at first little interest in their idea. When Reit was away on military service during the Second World War before the book was released, Oriolo sold the rights to the book to Paramount Pictures' Famous Studios animation division.

The Friendly Ghost, the first Noveltoon to feature Casper, was released by Paramount in 1945 with a few differences from the book. In the cartoon adaptation, Casper is a cute ghost-child with a New York accent, who inhabits a haunted house along with a community of adult ghosts who delight in scaring the living. Casper, however, is a noncomformist among ghosts: he would prefer to make friends with people. He packs up his belongings and goes out into the world, hoping to find friends. However, the animals that he meets (a rooster, a mole, a cat, a mouse named Herman, and a group of hens) take one horrified look at him and run off in the other direction. Distraught, Casper unsuccessfully attempts to commit suicide (apparently forgetting that he is already dead) by laying himself down on a railway track before an oncoming train, before he meets two children named Bonnie and Johnny who become his friends. The children's mother—apparently widowed and impoverished—at first is frightened of Casper, but later welcomes him into the family after he (unintentionally) frightens off a greedy landlord, who, unwilling to own a "haunted" house, tears up the mortgage and gives her the house outright. The short ends with the mother kissing Bonnie, Johnny, and Casper as she sends them off to school, with Casper wearing clothing as if he were a living child.

DVD: POPEYE AND FRIENDS 15 CARTOON CLASSICS

Popeye the Sailor is a series of animated short films based on the fictional cartoon character created by Elzie Crisler Segar. In 1933, Max and Dave Fleischer's Fleischer Studios adapted Segar's characters into a series of Popeye the Sailor theatrical cartoon shorts for Paramount Pictures. The plotlines in the animated cartoons tended to be simpler than those presented in the comic strips, and the characters slightly different. A villain, usually Bluto, makes a move on Popeye's "sweetie," Olive Oyl. The villain clobbers Popeye until he eats spinach, giving him superhuman strength. Thus empowered, the sailor makes short work of the villain.

The Fleischer cartoons, based out of New York City, proved to be among the most popular of the 1930s, and would remain a staple of Paramount's release schedule for nearly 25 years. Paramount would take control of the studio in 1941 and rename it Famous Studios, ousting the Fleischer brothers and continuing production. The theatrical Popeye cartoons began airing on television in an altered form in 1956, at which point the theatrical series was discontinued. Popeye the Sailor in all produced 231 short subjects that were broadcast on television for numerous years, garnering enormous popularity with new generations.

The cartoons are now owned by Turner Entertainment, a subsidiary of Time Warner, and distributed by sister company Warner Bros. Entertainment. After many years of negotiations, Warner Home Video reached an agreement with King Features Syndicate for an official DVD release of the series. Restored and uncut Popeye cartoons through 1943 were released on DVD in the late 2000s. The 1930s Popeye cartoons have been noted by historians for their urban feel, with the Fleischers pioneering an East Coast animation scene that differed highly from their counterparts. In addition to becoming iconic within mainstream public consciousness, the majority of Popeye short subjects are highly acclaimed by animation historians and fans.

PAPERBACK: THE COMPLETE SKY MASTERS OF THE SPACE FORCE -- JACK KIRBY WALLY WOOD

Sky Masters of the Space Force was an American, syndicated newspaper comic strip created by writer Dave Wood and penciler Jack Kirby, featuring the adventures of an American astronaut.

With art samples and story outline approved by Elmlark, Kirby penciled the strip, which was initially written by brothers Dick & Dave Wood and inked by the unrelated Wally Wood; at that same time, Dave Wood was also working with Kirby on the Showcase Comics issues of Kirby's "Challengers of the Unknown" feature for DC Comics, and Wally Wood would later ink issues #2-8 of Kirby's Challengers of the Unknown comic book series during the last half of 1958 and the first half of 1959. Later "Sky Masters" strips were written by Kirby, and inked by Dick Ayers, with the final month penciled and inked by Kirby alone.

Ayers described his participation in a 1996 interview:

"I also began [work on] Sky Masters, the newspaper strip. There is a lot of confusion on this; people think Wally Wood inked them all, because they're signed Kirby/Wood. But that was Dave Wood, the writer [who was unrelated to artist Wally Wood]. I began Sky Masters with the 36th Sunday page; Jack's pencils, my inks, in September of 1959. I ended the Sundays in January 1960. I also did the dailies for a period of [over] two years, from September of '59 to December of '61. These were complete inks; I was the only one doing it at the time. Of course, Wally Wood also worked on that strip, in the beginning, before me."[2]

DVD: ONE STEP BEYOND 50s SCI FI TV

Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond (also known as One Step Beyond) is an American anthology series created by Merwin Gerard. The original series ran for three seasons on ABC from January 1959 to July 1961.

Created by Merwin Gerard and produced by Collier Young, One Step Beyond was hosted by John Newland, "your guide to the supernatural" (also credited as "Our guide into the world of the unknown"). Newland presented tales that explored paranormal events and various situations that defied "logical" explanation. Unlike other anthology programmers, the ABC network series episodes were presented in the form of straightforward thirty-minute docudramas, all said to be based on true events. Initially, the program included the corporate name of sponsor Alcoa as part of its full title.

One Step Beyond filled the time slot at 10 p.m. Tuesday vacated by the crime/police reality show Confession.

DVD: SERGEANT PRESTON OF THE YUKON 50s TV

Challenge of the Yukon was a radio series that began on Detroit's station WXYT (known as WXYZ at the time) (as had The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet), and an example of a Northern genre story. The series was first heard on February 3, 1938. The title changed from Challenge of the Yukon to Sergeant Preston of the Yukon in November 1951, and remained under that name through the end of the series and into television.

DVD: MR. AND MRS. NORTH 50s TV

Mr. and Mrs. North are fictional American amateur detectives. Created by Frances and Richard Lockridge, the couple were featured in a series of 26 Mr. and Mrs. North novels, a Broadway play, a motion picture and several radio and television series.

Mr. and Mrs. North was a radio mystery series that aired on CBS from 1942 to 1954. Alice Frost and Joseph Curtin had the title roles when the series began in 1942. The characters, publisher Jerry North and his wife Pam, lived in Greenwich Village at 24 St. Anne's Flat. They were not professional detectives but simply an ordinary couple who stumbled across a murder or two every week for 12 years. The radio program eventually reached nearly 20 million listeners.

In 1946, producer-director Fred Coe brought the Owen Davis play to television (on New York City's WNBT) with John McQuade and Maxine Stewart in the leads and Don Haggerty, Joan Marlowe and Millard Mitchell repeating their Broadway roles

Barbara Britton and Richard Denning starred in the TV adaptation, produced by John W. Loveton, seen on CBS from 1952 to 1953 and on NBC in 1954, sponsored by Revlon cosmetics. Francis De Sales starred in 25 episodes as police Lieutenant Bill Weigand, only his second screen role. Guest stars included Raymond Burr, Hans Conried, Russ Conway, Mara Corday, I. Stanford Jolley, Carolyn Jones, Katy Jurado, Jimmy Lydon, Dayton Lummis, Julia Meade, William Schallert, and Gloria Talbott. Sixteen episodes of the TV series have been released in the "Best of TV Detectives" box set. A larger set of 8 DVDs containing 32 episodes has also been released by Alpha Video Distributors and is featured by the online store www.oldies.com.

PAPERBACK: Classic Pin-Up Art of Jack Cole PLAYBOY CARTOONS`

104 PAGES! MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 10 1/4 x 7 3/4"

Jack Ralph Cole (December 14, 1914 – August 13, 1958)[1] was an American cartoonist best known for creating the comedic superhero Plastic Man and his cartoons for Playboy magazine.

He was posthumously inducted into the comic book industry's Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1991[2] and the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1999.[3]

In 1954, after having drawn slightly risqué, single-panel "good girl art" cartoons for magazines, using the pen name "Jake", Cole became the premier cartoon illustrator for Playboy. Under his own name, he produced full-page, watercolored gag cartoons of beautiful but dim girls and rich but equally dim old men. Elaborately finished, they provided the template for similar cartoons in the magazine. Cole's art first appeared in the fifth issue; he would have at least one piece published in Playboy each month for the rest of his life. So popular was his work that the second item of merchandise ever licensed by Playboy (after cufflinks with the famous rabbit-head logo) was a cocktail-napkin set, "Females by Cole", featuring his cartoons.[citation needed] Cole biographer Art Spiegelman said, "Cole's goddesses were estrogen soufflés who mesmerized the ineffectual saps who lusted after them."[6][7]

NEW! NEVER READ! IN STORAGE SINCE ITS 2003 RELEASE
SOFTCOVER BOOK: 1000 GAME HEROES
MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 10" X 8 1/2" X 1 1/2" 600 PAGES!
If you're looking for a gorgeous coffee table book to page though, 1000 Game Heroes might fit the bill if you
enjoy games at all! This massive tome has over 600 pages of glossy images and information on games from
Ghost Recon to Tomb Raider, Ecco to Virtua Cop to Dungeon Siege. Most of the games featured are newer
ones, and the graphics they choose to highlight are truly spectacular. Each title lists its platform, release date,
developer and editor. A paragraph about each game is given in English, French and German. This means that
you don't get a huge amount of depth for each game. But the book is already 600 pages long. If they had in
depth information on each game, it would have turned into 2,000 pages and would have cost over $100. Instead,
there's just enough about the game for you to see if you're interested in it, at which point you simply go to the web
and learn everything you could possibly hope to know about it. -- REVIEW FROM BELLAONLINE.COM

FROM HORROR.COM:

Artist Spencer Davis Interview

I first met Spencer Davis earlier this year while wandering around Comic Con in San Diego. Stashed somewhere between the roaming troups of half-naked cosplay girls, the countless Incredible Hulk Green Whatevers, and the Bilbo Baggins Bobbing Head Dolls was a modest table stacked with colorful little statues that were, well, stacked. I decided to stop and ask the friendly guy running the booth about his rubber-neck inducing work.

Based in Los Angeles, Spencer Davis is an independent artist who makes sculptures of girls with really really big butts. Spencer's pop-culturish "Booty Babe Art" covers a bunch of different themes, from fast cars to naughty devils to African tribal. As I talked more with Spencer following the Con, I found out that a number of his pieces have been influenced by horror and science fiction. Beyond the "Booty Babes" themselves, his personal artistic influences include numerous comic book artists and movie makers who are instantly familiar to horror fans.

With Halloween approaching, and Spencer unveiling a new Frankenstein-themed Babe for a "Haunted Doll House" art show, I decided the time was right to sit down with him and ask some questions about art, horror, and of course, booty.

Space Patrol -- The Lost Episodes, Vol. 5.    In the first episode, Kit Corry (Buzz's older brother) flubs his lines again as Buzz is introduced to the show -- by space-o-phone.  (A unique moment in Space Patrol history as one actor transfers the reins to another.)  The Secret of Eternal Youth (also known as The Energy Thief, Sept. 13, 1952, # 90) features Buzz, Happy, Robby and Tonga as captives of a mad scientist who turns all but Buzz into ghosts. (Nice medium shot of Buzz, Happy and Robbie in the Terra V.)   Titan Fraud (Jun. 6, 1953, # 128) has the people who are running a small way station on Titan defrauded by a relative -- with the help of a Space Patrol appraisal engineer (played by Marvin Miller, later to achieve fame as the lead character on The Millionaire TV series). Jim Todd is played by I. Stanford Jolley, no relation to Norman Jolley.   Planetoid 36 is about a minor whose strike is about to be stolen, also by relatives.  With original commercials including an ad for the Magic Space Pictures premium and the appearance of a cool Space Patrol kids car, apparently not a premium plug.  These episodes are overall good and sharp but may contain some fading and other minor defects due to the kinescopic process and other reproduction processes.

These episodes went public domain on the following dates; Sept. 13, 1981; Jun. 6, 1982; Feb. 16, 1981

 BOOK: PREFAB HOUSES

A Prefab is a mass produced house, constructed in a factory and assembled on site in a few days or weeks. Once regarded as a cheap, easy solution for urgent housing problems, the prefab has evolved to become a synonym for ambitious design and sophisticated detailing solutions. The amazing history of prefabricated houses started in England in the 1830's with a building kit for emigrants moving to Australia. Even today, prefabricated houses provide a high percentage of living spaces in many countries of the world. This book covers prefabs from the USA via Europe to Asia and Africa, giving insight into the various industrially prefabricated components, the difficulties of delivery to the building site, and the intricacies of assembly and completion. As well as tracing the liaison between modernism and industrialization that evolved to produce the latest prefabricated solutions, it also features a unique compilation of one-off prefabricated houses by well known international architects, as well as successful dwellings manufactured off-site for everyday modern living. Readers will also find contact details for relevant suppliers and manufacturers.

BOOK
NEW! NEVER READ! IN STORAGE SINCE ITS 2003 RELEASE
BOOK: 1000 GAME HEROES

Space Patrol -- The Lost Episodes, Vol. 4.   These are copies of out of copyright kinescopes not available to the public at large.  This DVD includes four episodes of Buzz and crew.  Hit by a Meteorite (Feb. 9, 1952, # 59), in which Buzz, Happy, Carol and Tonga struggle to save the Terra IV after it is hit by a meteorite.  The opening special effects shot kicks butt as does the space suited Happy flying in space sequence.  There's also an inside joke in this episode: Trachinger's Comet causes the meteors to swarm.  Bob Trachinger was a technition on the show.  Baccarratti's Z Ray (Apr. 10, 1954, # 172) reveals that Baccarratti (Bela Kovacs) has a twin brother hiding on 20th Century Earth. Marooned in the Past (Apr. 17, 1954, # 173) continues the story with Baccarratti's brother getting the upper hand on Buzz and Happy, stranding them in 20th Century America.  Evil Spirits of the Great Thunderbird (Apr. 24, 1954, # 174) is the third continuous episode in this series, with Buzz and Happy pursuing Baccarratti's twin brother to an 18th Century America inhabited by Indians.  With original commercials including an ad for the Cosmic Smoke Gun and the Cosmic Rocket Launcher.  These episodes are overall good and sharp but they may contain some fading and other minor defects due to the kinescopic process and other reproduction processes

Briana Banks (born Briana Bany;[1] May 21, 1978[2]) is a German-American pornographic actress and model.

In 1999 she responded to a newspaper ad to do nude modeling for adult magazines. The photographer put her in a pornographic film.[4] Her first film was University Coeds 18, for Dane Entertainment, in which she performed opposite Brandon Iron.[4] She entered the industry under the name "Mirage", but began calling herself "Briana Banks" in 2000, after having the first of two breast enlargement operations.[7] Having had aspirations of being a supermodel, she chose the professional surname "Banks" after model Tyra Banks.[8] Her first appearance using the new name was in the film Decadent Whores 9. She was Penthouse magazine's Pet of the Month in June 2001. The same year, she signed with Vivid Entertainment.[4]

Box measures 10.75x12.75x3.75." Practi-Cole Products, Inc. c. 1950s. Box is in surprisingly good shape considering it's age but some wear is apparent.  Study the photos carefully.  Helmet measures approximately 11.5x10" and is made from a thin sheet of plastic and vacuformed accent pieces indicating audio receptors and a vacuform top with Space Cadet symbol and "Space Helmet" text pressed into plastic. Scattered wear and aging to box and reflective surface of helmet is apparent.  Again, study the photos carefully.  This is the first generation Tom Corbett Cosmic Vision Helmet as advertized on the 1950s Tom Corbett Space Cadet TV show, not to be confused with a later version of the helmet that was made with different colors and not offered as a premium on the show.  This helmet is the real deal, very rare. Approximately 60 years old. Get it while you can.

Tom Corbett is the main character in a series of Tom Corbett — Space Cadet stories that were depicted in television, radio, books, comic books, comic strips, coloring books, punch-out books and View-Master reels in the 1950s. The stories followed the adventures of Tom Corbett, Astro and Roger Manning, cadets at the Space Academy as they train to become members of the elite Solar Guard. The action takes place at the Academy in classrooms and bunkrooms, aboard their training ship the rocket cruiser Polaris, and on alien worlds, both within our solar system and in orbit around nearby stars.

Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal (2001) is a book by investigative journalist Eric Schlosser that examines the local and global influence of the United States fast food industry.[3]

First serialized by Rolling Stone[4] in 1999, the book has drawn comparisons to Upton Sinclair's classic muckraking novel The Jungle.[5] The book was adapted into a film of the same name, directed by Richard Linklater.

The book is divided into two sections, “The American Way,” which interrogates the beginnings of the Fast Food Nation within the context of post-World War II America; and “Meat and Potatoes,” which examines the specific mechanizations of the fast-food industry, including the chemical flavoring of the food, the production of cattle and chickens, the working conditions of beef industry, the dangers of eating meat, and the global context of fast food as an American cultural export.

Fast Food Nation opens with discussion of Carl N. Karcher and the McDonalds brothers, examining their roles as pioneers of the fast-food industry in southern California. This discussion is followed by an examination of Ray Kroc and Walt Disney’s complicated relationship as well as each man’s rise to fame. This chapter also considers the intricate, profitable methods of advertising to children. Next, Schlosser visits Colorado Springs, CO and investigates the life and working conditions of the typical fast-food industry employee: fast-food restaurants employ the highest rate of low-wage workers, have among the highest turnover rates, and pay minimum wage to a higher proportion of its employees than any other American industry.

The second section of the text begins with a discussion of the chemical components that make the food taste so good. Schlosser follows this with a discussion of the life of a typical rancher, considering the difficulties presented to the agriculture world in a new economy. Schlosser is perhaps most provocative when he critiques the meatpacking industry, which he tags as the most dangerous job in America. Moreover, the meat produced by slaughterhouses has become exponentially more hazardous since the centralization of the industry: the way cattle are raised, slaughtered, and processed provides an ideal setting for E coli to spread. Additionally, working conditions continue to grow worse. In the final chapter, Schlosser considers how fast food has matured as an American cultural export following the Cold War: the collapse of Soviet Communism has allowed the mass spread of American goods and services, especially fast food. As a result, the rest of the world is catching up with America’s rising obesity rates.

HARDCOVER BOOK

NEW! HARDCOVER!

Subtitled 'Additional Observations on the Beauty/Ugliness of Mostly Pillowy Girls,' Underbelly is a hardcover art book featuring over 50 of Cooper's luminescent oil paintings and lush drawings, each focusing on the female form. Underbelly is the follow-up to Cooper's acclaimed first book of paintings, Overbite. Since then, Cooper has been producing new work at a fevered pitch for gallery shows and patrons alike. Although much of the work in Underbelly appears to have slithered out of a similar same place as Overbite, this latest batch has a decidedly darker and more urban flavor.

Taking on Heart Disease: Peggy Fleming, Brian Littrell et al Reveal How They Triumphed Over the Nation's #1 Killer--And How You Can, Too! [Hardcover]

More than 60 million people in the United States currently suffer from some form of heart disease. And even though the risk for the disease can be drastically reduced through changes in lifestyle and diet, the number of people with heart disease continues to grow. In an effort to reverse this deadly trend, Larry King has joined some of America's favorite celebrities from the worlds of sports, politics, journalism, music, and entertainment to reveal their highly personal stories of struggling with--and overcoming--heart disease. From the early warning signs, to the diagnosis, to the process of recovery and renewal, each celebrity reveals how he or she became a heart disease survivor.

Told in their own words, these candid accounts by some of America's most beloved celebrities offer inspiration, hope, and practical wisdom for anyone whose life has been touched by heart disease. This wise book also includes the latest advice from the celebrities' doctors--who are among the best in the world--on the prevention and treatment of heart disease.

BOOK COVERS HER AFFAIR WITH CLARENCE THOMAS

BOOK REVIEW:  “D.C. Unmasked & Undressed is a memoir. The story of my life includes events, characters and insights related to my miserable childhood, my legal career, and my varied sexual adventures. It can be summarized as: Girl from dysfunctional family meets boy from same…

I worked hard and played hard, too. Along the way, and for several years, I was the not-so-secret lover of a sitting Supreme Court Justice who has recently published his own memoir… His name is Clarence Thomas.” (Excerpted from the Introduction—“Rules Rule”. pg. xiii)

SPACE PATROL CAP -- AUTOGRAPHED BY ACTORS ON THE SHOW

EXCELLENT CONDITION!  NEAR MINT!

Space Patrol AUTOGRAPHED cap premium, original, from the 1950's TV show.  Cap is in excellent condition, considering it's age.  Tan part of cap has small spots on it --  they're  a darker tan and do not detract from the caps display value -- but other than that, there are no problems with the cap at all.  The bill of the cap contains  the faded signatures of "Cadet Happy," "Buzz Corry," "Tonga," "Carol" and "Robby."  Each signature looks different, as if written by a different person.  Ed Kemmer, star of the show, confirmed that the Space Patrol gang would, in fact, autograph caps when they did public appearances.  Signatures on the cap have been confirmed with the help of The Solar Guard (http://www.Solarguard.com).  The copy they sent us of verified Space Patrol signatures (see above), signed as the characters they portrayed, is a dead-bang match to the signatures on the cap.

REVIEW: The critical and box office success of the recent Batman movies directed by Christopher Nolan speaks to the potentially broad appeal of a character and a fictional universe whose core fanbase has been and remains, well, geeks. Inversely, Michael Uslan’s charming new memoir, The Boy Who Loved Batman, speaks to the power of those geeks who, if devoted enough and driven enough, can reshape the very objects of their affection through a sheer force of will that is greater than any superpower.

SPACE PATROL GOLD DVD, VOL. 1Contained on this DVD are five very rare, never before seen 15 minute weekly Space Patrol TV adventures from the 1950's plus one half hour BONUS episode.  The 15 minute shows were originally broadcast locally in Los Angeles and later syndicated to a limited number of markets.  Although it has long been known that Space Patrol was done live in L.A., this DVD contains a rare and unexpected find:  Amongst the five untitled 15 minute shows on this volume -- two with the early uniforms, three with the later uniforms -- you will see an out-take from a scene that is re-shot, a surprise that only SP historian Jean-Noel Bassior could explain: "A couple of shows were bumped because of the 1952 Republican convention.  The July 10th show was shot on it's scheduled air date but broadcast a few days later via kinescope."  The last three 15 minute episodes on this DVD feature their original commercials.  OF SPECIAL INTEREST: Robby and another character wear the Captain Marvel tunic from the serial.  BONUS EPISODE:  The Man Who Stole a City (June 13, 1953, episode number 129), featuring Lee Van Cleef as the henchman of a super criminal who has stolen (from Bela Kovacs in a non Baccarratti role), a device which allows buildings and spaceships to be shrunk to the size of toys. No commercials.  These episodes were made directly from the original Space Patrol kinescopes in the following manner: Kinescope to DV Cam to DVD. As such it is absolutely superior in quality to any other Space Patrol show that is being offered on the web or anywhere else. Comes with full color, factory sealed plastic collectors box.

ONE OF A KIND REPRO MAJOR MARS XL SHIRT WITH EMBROIDED PATCH AND COLOR INSIGNIA

Back in the 1970s Bob Burns -- actor, producer, author (It Came From Bob's Basement), collector of movie props -- created a short 16 mm film called The Adventures of Major Mars.  It was a send-up of the old movie serials -- most notably King of the Rocket Men -- that many visitors to this site remember so fondly.  I've been told the movie was made in the hopes it would entice one of the major networks back then into picking it up as a series.  Alas, that never happened. However, the film itself, making the rounds of the various comic book conventions during the seventies and eighties, became a fan favorite.  Eventually it achieved legendary status.

That's why Mike Elmo, decided to make a Major Mars repro shirt.  It is the only MM shirt we've made or will ever make.  For reasons beyond Mike's control, he will no longer be making any new Rocky Jones, Space Patrol, Space Cadet or Captain Video apparel.  It's shere coincidence that we have this Major Mars shirt available (see last week's editorial).   So if you are a MM fan and if you happen to be a size XL this is your chance -- your only chance -- to get a MM shirt.  Features embroidered MM patch and embroidered lightning insignia on collar.

You can check out three Major Mars adventures here.

THE NEW ALICE IN WONDERLAND -- HANNA-BARBERA

The Cheshire Cat voiced by Sammy Davis Jr.

MINT EXCEPT FOR MASKING TAPE RESIDUE AT UPPER LEFT

The New Alice in Wonderland (or What’s a Nice Kid Like You Doing in a Place Like This?) is a forty-eight-and-a-half-minute animated TV-movie, written by Bill Dana (who also appears in its cast), produced by Hanna-Barbera, and broadcast on the ABC network on March 30, 1966, in an hour slot (including commercials). The songs were by the then-hot Broadway team of composer Charles Strouse and lyricist Lee Adams, who were most famous for Bye Bye Birdie. The songs were orchestrated by Marty Paich, who also provided musical direction; plus devised and arranged that part of the underscoring that was drawn from the musical numbers. The rest of the underscoring was drawn from the vast library of cues that Hanna-Barbera's most significant (and at that time sole) in-house composer Hoyt Curtin had written for various animated series. (One example: When the Caterpillar makes its entrance, the underscoring is the familiar bassoon rendition of the Flintstones theme song—a cue employed for reasons that will be made clear below.)

With this being Wonderland through the "looking glass"—and more meaningfully, the tacit "prism"—of a TV set, the creative team had the excuse to reinterpret all the iconic Wonderland characters as TV celebrities. In some cases, this merely involved a celebrity voice and persona: Howard Morris lent the shy, sweet, impish persona he'd often employed in sketch comedy (most famously in Your Show of Shows) to the White Rabbit. Harvey Korman brought his take on effete eccentricity to the Mad Hatter. Perhaps most transparently, Zsa Zsa Gabor played a glamorous Queen of Hearts replete with Hungarian accent and a penchant for calling people "darling." And perhaps most famously, Sammy Davis, Jr. assayed the Cheshire Cat as a groovy, rockin', swingin' feline beatnik.

Laurel and Hardy is an American animated television series and an updated version of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy's comedic acts by the animation studio Hanna-Barbera from Hal Roach. 156 shorts were made in total, each having its own opening and closing wrap-arounds, to make them easy to air in syndication. In a majority of the cartoons, after Laurel and Hardy get into a mess of trouble, almost each one of them ends with Laurel whimpering in a high register.

HAROLD LLOYD'S HOLLYWOOD NUDES IN 3-D.

BOOK MEASURES 10 1/4" X 10 1/4" AND FEATURES A 3-D LENTICULAR COVER, 153 PAGES, HUNDREDS OF FULL COLOR PIX.

October 1, 2004
In Hollywood Nudes in 3D! a dazzling array of Hollywood starlets, including Marilyn Monroe, Bettie Page, Dixie Evans, and Tura Satana, come to life in all of their enticing loveliness.

Harold Lloyd, star of such classic silent films as Safety Last and The Freshman, shot more than 300,000 photographs with a stereoscopic (3D) camera. Many of the photos were of young women who dreamed of making it big in Hollywood. Here--for the first time ever in book form--are 200 of Lloyd's most lavish, luscious, and ludicrous pictures of Hollywood nudes posed against some of the most dramatic and creative backgrounds imaginable. Approximately 75 are reproduced in tantalizing 3D, and can be viewed with the aid of the special "Harold Lloyd-style" glasses included with the book.

YOGI BEAR ANIMATION PRODUCTION CEL

ANIMATION PRODUCTION CEL FROM YOGI BEAR, 1 OVERLAY, UNTRIMMED, PEG HOLES VISIBLE. CEL FEATURES THE TITLE CHARACTER.

Yogi Bear is a funny animal cartoon character, created by Hanna-Barbera Productions, who has appeared in numerous comic books, animated television shows and films. He made his debut in 1958 as a supporting character in The Huckleberry Hound Show. Yogi Bear was the first breakout character created by Hanna-Barbera, and was eventually more popular than Huckleberry Hound.[1] In January 1961, he was given his own show, The Yogi Bear Show, sponsored by Kellogg's, which included the segments Snagglepuss and Yakky Doodle.[2] Hokey Wolf replaced his segment on The Huckleberry Hound Show.[3] A musical animated feature film, Hey There, It's Yogi Bear!, was produced in 1964. Yogi was one of several Hanna-Barbera characters to have a collar. This allowed animators to keep his body static, redrawing only his head in each frame when he spoke. This reduced the number of drawings needed for a seven-minute cartoon from around 14,000 to around 2,000.[4]
