Cosplay Photos from the 2016 NY Comic Con

Some cosplayers are so prolific I can’t imagine how they make the time to search for supplies, make the costumes, and wear them. I craft so slowly that it would take ages for me to finish a single aspect of a costume, let alone an entire outfit. November Cosplay’s portfolio is one that leaves me stunned. She’s dressed as a dazzling array of characters with an emphasis on the Marvel universe and also including DC Comics, Harry Potter, and Disney. She rocks a couple of Disney villains, including Hades from Hercules. Take a look:

Here's why DragonCon draws in the best of the cosplay community

If you like cosplay at all, DragonCon is the place that you want to go. While costumers can be found at just about every convention you go to, this is where cosplayers go to show off every Labor Day weekend.

While San Diego Comic-Con is what everyone thinks about when you say the word 'convention,' DragonCon is where cosplayers bring out their best work. Held in Atlanta, Georgia, the convention celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, and in addition to the panels and vendors that you'll see at most conventions, the real draw is its spectacular array of costumers and their best work, which surpass every other convention out there. If Comic-Con is like a college degree, DragonCon is like graduate school. There's no limit to the strange, obscure, or downright bewildering.

Sneaky Zebra’s latest video does a good job at capturing the incredible variety, creativity, and strangeness of DragonCon. In addition to seeing regular costumes like Stormtroopers or comic book characters, you're treated to a living parade of internet memes. Want to see a Daft Punk / Star Wars crossover? How about Immortan Trump? Troop of Lego Ghostbusters? Prince as a Power Ranger? They’re all there, and you never know exactly what you’re going to find when you visit.

If there’s any drawback to this sort of video, it’s knowing that you’re only seeing a fraction of what there was to see.

Batman Cosplay Suit Sets World Record With 23 Gadgets

A mind-blowing Batman cosplay costume sporting 23 functioning gadgets – including smoke bombs, a grapnel gun and a bat sign projector – has earned a spot in Guinness World Records' 2017 Gamer's Edition. Irish special creature effects expert Julian Checkley designed the intricate suit around the Caped Crusader's outfit in video game Batman: Arkham Origins.

Checkley broke down the costume in a detailed video teasing the Gamer's Edition. The design also includes a fireball shooter, two gauntlet video screens, bat-tracking beacon, bat sign projector, folding batarang, cowl respirator, pneumatic tranquilizer gun, ultrasonic anti-dog device, four bat shuriken, UV lamp, two ball-bearing grenades, gauntlet flashlight, medi-kit, battery pack, laser designator, bat-cam, strobe stun gun, gas dispenser, two smoke bombs, bat flask, concealed laryngeal microphone and two-way radio.

"When I was about seven years old, I made my very first cosplay costume – a little Darth Vader costume out of a balloon and papier-mâché," Checkley said in a video revealing his epic creation, which was partly created with 3D printing. He recruited an electrical engineer to help create the 200-watt EMP stun gun. Before becoming an effects expert, Checkley worked in the film industry as a model maker and art director. Throughout his career, he dreamed of constructing a tribute to the Dark Knight. "I've always been a Batman fan," he said. "He's kind of anti-hero, kind of dark, but he's still a good guy." The Guinness World Records' 2017 Gamer's Edition hits shelves September 8th.

Cosplay Friday #172 – Black Widow, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and More

Let me be the one to give you a three week warning: San Diego Comic-Con is almost here. The biggest nerd party of the summer kicks off on July 21. That’s how many days you have left to finish up any cosplay projects you have in the works. Of course, if you follow the pattern of most cosplayers I know, you’ll probably put off everything until almost the last minute–I can’t judge, I’m a procrastinator, too.

If you need an extra boost to finish your project, just pretend Black Widow will kick your butt if you don’t finish.

You can see additional examples of Knightmare6’s photography in the gallery, but you can also follow along on Instagram to see more cosplay shots.

And speaking of that gallery, don’t forget to keep scrolling to see a look based on Negasonic Teenage Warhead in Deadpool, Daenerys Targaryen (a.k.a. Queen of Everything) from Game of Thrones, Thorin Oakenshield, and more.

Pat Loika’s Epic Photos Include Avengers, Kylo Ren, and More

In case you haven’t noticed, cosplay is a thing. The hobby and, in some cases, profession has only grown in recent years. It’s why Cosplay Friday exists. The increasing number of cosplayers means photographers can keep busy shooting pics of people dressed as their favorite fictional characters, and we’re putting the spotlight on one of those photographers today: Pat Loika.

Pat started taking cosplay photos in 2011. He’s a familiar face on the convention circuit and seems to know everyone. He says his favorite part of working with cosplayers is the collaboration aspect and making friends. Aside from his friendly personality, he makes beautiful photographs—I’d want to work with him if I still cosplayed! See for yourself:

Starfire cosplay by Oki-Cospi

I was pondering whether to add Oki-Cospi to Hot Cosplay Girls but there’s just something about her that’s just so cute. She’s just a little, bouncy bundle of curves, lips and sweetness.

Oki-Cospi is an American cosplayer, student, artist and she’s a super talented costume maker. Which isn’t surprising considering she’s been cosplaying for years. Her Starfire cosplay costume is especially hot (it’s the one where she’s painted orange)!

Be sure to check out my photo gallery of Oki-Cospi below, photos include Super Sonico, Gurren Lagann Samus from Metroid and many more. You can also view her social media accounts for more great pics: Facebook, Deviantart, Twitter and Tumblr.

Now here’s an unusual cosplayer, she only wears Lara Croft outfits, of which she has amassed a huge amount.

Tanya Croft is practically a Lara Croft impersonator as she seems to spend all her time either making Lara Croft outfits with her fiance or having photos taken wearing them. She’s from the Ukraine, has been cosplaying for over 8 years! And seems to get cuter ever year.

Follow Tanya Croft on her Deviantart, Instagram, Tumblr and Facebook or you could just check out her hottest photos below.

Cosplay starlet Aza Miyuko: 'Don't think of popularity. Just feel it.'

Looking like a living doll – or sexy maid, depending on what you like – it's easy to see why South Korean costume player Aza Miyuko has fans everywhere.

One doesn't get to rub shoulders with South Korean costume player Aza Miyuko every day. So when she retuned to Malaysia in June – two years after her visit for the 2012 Anime Festival Asia Malaysia – it was a real thrill. About 600 fans turned up at the mall in One City SkyPark, Subang Jaya, Selangor to meet and greet the cosplayer, who was in town for a fan session organised by Malaysia Cosplay Toshokhan.

Miyuko, whose real name is Kang Yun Jin, arrived dressed as Sonoda Umi, a 16-year-old high school student who's fronts the pop band Lily White from the multimedia anime series Love Live!, about a group of schoolgirls who become pop idols to save their school from shutting down. Looking like a living doll – or a sexy maid, depending on how you see it – it's easy to see why Miyuko has fans all over the world.

In a lucky draw, one fan at the meet-and-greet won his chance to take a selfie with Miyuko. Meanwhile, everyone else who bought her photo books, AZA001 and AZA002, or any of her three posters were allowed to get her autograph and take photos of her. Despite the long line of fans, some in costumes themselves, Miyuko signed and posed for every one of them without losing her smile.

At dinner that evening, at the Charlie Chaplin café, other fans had the opportunity to mingle with Miyuko. So we took the moment to ask the pint-sized starlet a few questions.

Tine Marie Riis is a cosplayer based in Norway who started cosplaying in 2009. She first discovered cosplay through her love of anime and attended her first convention in Los Angeles.

She went on to attend conventions in Norway and debuted her cosplaying skills at these events, beginning a rise to fame in the cosplaying world. Tine selects her characters based on whether she feels she can relate to them, giving her the passion to work on the costume and creating the character.

Cosplaying has opened up opportunities for her to use her skills in photos and film, bringing her work to life on screen.
