Scooby-Doo is an American animated cartoon franchise, comprising several animated television series produced from 1969 to the present day. The original series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, was created for Hanna-Barbera Productions by writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears in 1969. This Saturday-morning cartoon series featured four teenagers—Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley and Norville "Shaggy" Rogers—and their talking brown Great Dane[1] dog named Scooby-Doo, who solve mysteries involving supposedly supernatural creatures through a series of antics and missteps.[2]

BOOK: WILL ELDER CHICKEN FAT

SAMPLES:

William Elder (September 22, 1921 – May 14, 2008)[1] was an American illustrator and comic book artist who worked in numerous areas of commercial art but is best known for a zany cartoon style that helped launch Harvey Kurtzman's Mad comic book in 1952.

Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner said, "He was a zany, and a lovable one."[2] Longtime Mad writer-cartoonist Al Jaffee called Elder "Absolutely brilliant... he was the star from the beginning. He had a feel for the kind of satire that eventually spread everywhere."[2]

Elder was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2003.

The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show (known as Rocky & His Friends during the first two seasons and as The Bullwinkle Show for the remaining seasons)[7] is an American animated television series that originally aired from November 19, 1959, to June 27, 1964, on the ABC and NBC television networks. Produced by Jay Ward Productions, the series is structured as a variety show, with the main feature being the serialized adventures of the two title characters, the anthropomorphic moose Bullwinkle and flying squirrel Rocky. The main adversaries in most of their adventures are the Russian-like spies Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale. Supporting segments include Dudley Do-Right (a parody of old-time melodrama), Peabody's Improbable History (a dog and his pet boy Sherman traveling through time), and Fractured Fairy Tales (classic fairy tales retold in comic fashion), among others.[8]

EXCELLENT CONDITION -- NEVER READ! SMALL FOLD ON LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER.

53 SUNDAY PAGES/773 DAILY STRIPS - MEASURES APPROXIMATELY  10 3/4" x 8 1/2"

PAPERBACK: THE COMPLETE SKY MASTERS OF THE SPACE FORCE -- JACK KIRBY WALLY WOOD

Sky Masters of the Space Force was an American, syndicated newspaper comic strip created by writer Dave Wood and penciler Jack Kirby, featuring the adventures of an American astronaut.

With art samples and story outline approved by Elmlark, Kirby penciled the strip, which was initially written by brothers Dick & Dave Wood and inked by the unrelated Wally Wood; at that same time, Dave Wood was also working with Kirby on the Showcase Comics issues of Kirby's "Challengers of the Unknown" feature for DC Comics, and Wally Wood would later ink issues #2-8 of Kirby's Challengers of the Unknown comic book series during the last half of 1958 and the first half of 1959. Later "Sky Masters" strips were written by Kirby, and inked by Dick Ayers, with the final month penciled and inked by Kirby alone.

Ayers described his participation in a 1996 interview:

"I also began [work on] Sky Masters, the newspaper strip. There is a lot of confusion on this; people think Wally Wood inked them all, because they're signed Kirby/Wood. But that was Dave Wood, the writer [who was unrelated to artist Wally Wood]. I began Sky Masters with the 36th Sunday page; Jack's pencils, my inks, in September of 1959. I ended the Sundays in January 1960. I also did the dailies for a period of [over] two years, from September of '59 to December of '61. These were complete inks; I was the only one doing it at the time. Of course, Wally Wood also worked on that strip, in the beginning, before me."[2]

Ron English is a culture jammer and well-known pop painter. A seminal figure in the subvertising, or culture jamming movement, in which artists and activists subvert an existing advertisement to send out their own message or encourage free thought, English has pirated over a thousand billboards over the last twenty years, replacing existing advertisements with his own hand-painted ""subvertisements."" His paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, from Japan to Europe to the former Soviet Union; and included in prominent collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris and the Whitney Museum in New York. Ron has designed murals for the Guggenheim Children's Fund

DVD: THE ADVENTURES OF DR. FU MANCHU - 1950S TV
The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu is a syndicated American television series that aired in 1956. The show was produced by Hollywood Television Service, a subsidiary of Republic Pictures.[1]

Each episode would start off with Fu Manchu and Nayland Smith playing a game of chess with the narrator telling us that "It is said the Devil plays for men's souls. So does Dr. Fu Manchu, Satan himself, evil incarnate." At the end of each episode, after Nayland Smith and Dr. Petrie had foiled Fu Manchu's latest fiendish scheme, Fu Manchu would be seen breaking a black chess piece as the closing credits rolled.

The series was directed by noted serial director Franklin Adreon as well as William Witney. Unlike the Holmes/Watson type relationship of the films, the series featured Smith as a law enforcement official and Petrie as a staff member of the Surgeon General.

The series was similar in some ways to a serial but each episode ended in a resolution rather than a cliffhanger. Republic sent out a film crew to Hong Kong to shoot background footage and supplied stock footage from its library of films.

CD: LOST FEMALE HITS OF THE 50s EARTHA KITT KAY STARR DINAH SHORE DELLA REESE...

Digitally remastered by Eliot Goshman (1998 Taragon Studios, Deer Park, New York). All 18 of the tunes assembled here were very big hits on the pop charts in the middle of the rock & roll era, and pop hit records they most assuredly were and are with nary a hint of rock & roll wildness to be found in them. Big hits aboard in tracks like "That's All I Want From You" by Jaye P. Morgan, "I Enjoy Being a Girl" by Pat Suzuki, "My Coloring Book" by Kitty Kallen, "Don't You Know" by Della Reese, "Crying In the Chapel" by June Valli and "C'est Si Bon" by Eartha Kitt. Selections from Mindy Carson, April Stevens, Gisele McKenzie, Sunny Gale, Toni Arden, Kay Starr, Dinah Shore, Teddi King, Gogi Grant, Georgia Gibbs and Rosemary Clooney complete the package. Another interesting collection (along with its companion volume, Lost Male Hits of the 50's) of what was happening in the pop charts right when rock & roll was the dominating force in pop music. ~ Cub Koda 18 tracks feat. Mindy Carson, April Stevens, Jaye P. Morgan, Eartha Kitt, June Valli, Sunny Gale, Kay Starr, Della Reese, Rosemary Clooney, Kitty Kallen & others Director: Joe Reisman.

Space Patrol is a science fiction adventure series that was originally aimed at juvenile audiences of the early 1950s via television, radio, and comic books.[1] However, it soon developed a sizable adult audience such that by 1954, the program consistently ranked in the top 10 shows broadcast on a Saturday.[2]

The Space Patrol television show began broadcasting March 9, 1950, starting as a daily 15-minute show on a local Los Angeles station. However, on December 30, 1950, the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) added the show as a new half-hour program to its Saturday schedule. It became an overnight sensation such that the new weekly show broadcast and the 15-minute shows continued daily on a local basis, and was seen via kinescope in other cities.[3] A 1953 30-minute episode was the subject of the first U.S. experimental 3D television broadcast on April 29 in Los Angeles on ABC affiliate KECA-TV.[4][5]

The series also made history by being the first regular live West Coast morning network program beamed to the East Coast.[6] In modern times, there is a tendency to take national broadcast events for granted, but at the time, it took an intricate network of cable and relay stations to accomplish this enormous task.[7]

The ABC television Space Patrol broadcasts became one of the nation's first mass media phenomena, such that it was quickly moved to an ABC radio series of the same name. The radio program was popular and ran from September 18, 1950 until March 19, 1955 producing approximately 129 thirty-minute episodes.[8]

The televised Space Patrol aired continuously until July 2, 1954; after a short break, it reappeared on September 4, 1954, before finally disappearing from the air on February 26, 1955. 210 half-hour shows and close to 900 15-minute shows were made over Space Patrol's 5-year run. In addition, around 129 thirty-minute radio shows were produced.[9][10][11]

D
Frontline Combat was an anthology war comic book written and edited by Harvey Kurtzman and published bi-monthly by EC Comics. The first issue was cover dated July/August, 1951. It ran for 15 issues over three years, and ended with the January, 1954 issue. Publication was discontinued following a decline in sales attributed to the end of the Korean War. The title was a companion to Kurtzman's comic book Two-Fisted Tales. Both titles depicted the horrors of war realistically and in great detail, exposing what Kurtzman saw as the truth about war without glamorizing or idealizing it.

MORE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontline_Combat

Harvey Kurtzman (October 3, 1924 – February 21, 1993) was an American cartoonist and editor of comic books and magazines. His large body of work includes writing and editing the parodic comic book Mad from 1952 until 1956, and the sexy and satirical Little Annie Fanny strips in Playboy from 1962 until 1988. His work is noted for its satire and parody of popular culture, social critique, and an obsessive attention to detail. His working method has been likened to that of an auteur, and those who illustrated his stories were expected to follow his layouts strictly.

Born to Jewish immigrants, Kurtzman took early to cartooning. After graduating from New York's High School of Music & Art, he spent the 1940s doing freelance work for various publishers and publications before getting regular work at EC Comics in 1950, writing and drawing for their New Trend line of comic books. He wrote and edited the Two-Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat war comic books, where he also drew many of the carefully researched stories, before he created his most-remembered comic book, Mad, in 1952. The Kurtzman-scripted stories were drawn by top EC cartoonists, most frequently Will Elder, Wally Wood, and Jack Davis; the early Mad was noted for its social critique and parodies of pop culture. The comic book switched to a magazine format in 1955, and Kurtzman left it in 1956 over a dispute with EC's owner William Gaines over financial control. Following his departure, he did a variety of cartooning jobs, including editing the short-lived Trump and the self-published Humbug. In 1959, he produced the first book-length work of original comics, the adult-oriented, satirical Jungle Book. He edited the low-budget Help! from 1960 to 1965, a humor magazine which featured work by future Monty Python member Terry Gilliam and the earliest work of underground cartoonists such as Robert Crumb and Gilbert Shelton. He brought Help! to an end after the success of the risqué Playboy feature Little Annie Fanny began to take up too much of his time. While Annie Fanny provided much of his income for the rest of his career, he continued to produce an eclectic body of work, including screenwriting the animated Mad Monster Party? in 1967 and directing, writing and designing several shorts for Sesame Street in 1969.

From 1973, Kurtzman taught cartooning at the School of Visual Arts in New York. His work gained greater recognition toward the end of his life, and he oversaw deluxe reprintings of much of his work. The Harvey Award was named in Kurtzman's honor in 1988. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1989, and his work earned five positions on The Comics Journal's Top 100 Comics of the 20th Century.

Topo Gigio [ˈtɔpo ˈdʒidʒo] was the lead character of a children's puppet show on Italian and Spanish television in the early 1960s. The character, created by artist Maria Perego, debuted on Italian television in 1959 and has been customarily voiced by actor Giuseppe "Peppino" Mazzullo and later Davide Garbolino. EC COMICS: TALES FROM THE CRYPT #32

NICE BRIGHT COLORS, TAPE ON COVER, INTERIOR PAGES OFF WHITE WITH TAPE AT EDGES THROUGHOUT AS SHOWN

Tales from the Crypt was a bi-monthly horror comic anthology series published by EC Comics from 1950–1955, producing 27 issues. (The first 17 issues of the series were titled "The Crypt of Terror". The title change began with issue #18, for a total of 44 issues in the series.) Along with its sister titles, The Haunt of Fear and The Vault of Horror, Tales From the Crypt was popular, but in the late 1940s and early 1950s comic books came under attack from parents, clergymen, schoolteachers and others who believed the books contributed to illiteracy and juvenile delinquency. In April and June 1954, highly publicized Congressional subcommittee hearings on the effects of comic books upon children left the industry shaken. With the subsequent imposition of a highly restrictive Comics Code, EC Comics publisher Bill Gaines canceled Tales from the Crypt and its two companion horror titles, along with the company's remaining crime and science fiction series in September 1954. All EC titles have been reprinted at various times since their demise, and stories from the horror series have been adapted for television and film.

DVD DOUBLE FEATURE: VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA & FANTASTIC VOYAGE
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea is an American science fiction film, produced and directed by Irwin Allen, released by 20th
Century Fox in 1961. The story was written by Irwin Allen and Charles Bennett. Walter Pidgeon starred as Admiral Harriman Nelson, with
Robert Sterling as Captain Lee Crane. The supporting cast included Joan Fontaine, Barbara Eden, Michael Ansara, and Peter Lorre.
The theme song was sung by Frankie Avalon, who also appeared in the film.

Fantastic Voyage is a 1966 science fiction film written by Harry Kleiner, based on a story by Otto Klement and Jerome Bixby.[3][4][5][6]

The  original story took place in the 19th century and was meant to be a Jules Verne-inspired adventure tale with a sense of wonder.

Kleiner abandoned all but the concept of miniaturization and added a Cold War element. It was directed by Richard Fleischer and

stars Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch, Edmond O'Brien and Donald Pleasence.

Bantam Books obtained the rights for a paperback novelization based on the screenplay and approached Isaac Asimov to write it.[7]

Because the novelization was released six months before the movie, many people mistakenly believed Asimov's book had inspired

the film .[8]

The movie inspired an animated television series.

2 DVD SET: RED SKELTON AMERICA'S CLOWN PRINCE
The Red Skelton Show is an American variety show that was a television staple for two decades, from 1951 to 1971. It was second to Gunsmoke (1955–1975) and third to The Ed Sullivan Show (1948–1971) in the ratings during that time. The host of the show, Richard Bernard "Red" Skelton, who had previously been a radio star, had appeared in several motion pictures as well.[1] Although his television series is largely associated with CBS, where it appeared for more than fifteen years, it actually began and ended on NBC. During its run, the program received three Emmy Awards, for Skelton as best comedian and the program as best comedy show during its initial season, and an award for comedy writing in 1961.

The Three Faces of Eve is a 1957 American film adaptation based on a book by psychiatrists Corbett H. Thigpen and Hervey M. Cleckley, who also helped write the screenplay. It was based on their case of Chris Costner Sizemore, also known as Eve White, a woman they suggested might suffer from multiple personality disorder.[3] Sizemore's identity was concealed in interviews and this film, and was not revealed to the public until 1975.

Joanne Woodward won the Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the first actress to win an Oscar for portraying three different personalities (Eve White, Eve Black and Jane). The Three Faces of Eve also became the first film to win the Best Actress award without getting nominated in another category since Bette Davis won for Dangerous in 1935, and the last for nearly 31 years until Jodie Foster won the award for The Accused, the film's sole nomination.

CD: HITS OF THE 50s THE FOUR FRESHMAN KAY STARR ERNIE FORD  STAN FREBERG...

EMI-Capitol Special Markets' Lost Hits series is unusual, as far as budget-line series go. Usually, budget-line collections have a few hits and a lot of filler, topping out at ten or 12 tracks. Lost Hits contains no less than 20 tracks, and instead of relying on predictable material, the compilers have balanced underappreciated hits, cult favorites and forgotten singles from the EMI vaults, resulting in a thoroughly entertaining disc. Lost Hits of the '50s sticks to mainstream pop for most of its 20 tracks, but there are novelties (Stan Freberg's "Point of Order," "The Old Payola Roll Blues"), proto-rockabilly (Ella Mae Morse's "The Blacksmith Blues"), doo wop (the Cheers' "Bazzom (I Need Your Lovin')") and countless variations of vocal pop from the Four Freshmen, the Four Knights, Kay Starr & Tennessee Ernie Ford, Jean Shepard and Andy Griffith. There might not be many songs that are instantly recognizable, but that's the very reason why it's worth a gamble at this bargain price.

DVD: BILL HALEY AND HIS COMETS LIVE
Bill Haley & His Comets was an American rock and roll band that was founded in 1952 and continued until Haley's death in 1981. The band, also known by the names Bill Haley and The Comets and Bill Haley's Comets (and variations thereof), was the earliest group of white musicians to bring rock and roll to the attention of white America and the rest of the world. From late 1954 to late 1956, the group placed nine singles in the Top 20, one of those a number one and three more in the Top Ten.[1]

Bandleader Bill Haley had previously been a country music performer; after recording a country and western-styled version of "Rocket 88", a rhythm and blues song, he changed musical direction to a new sound which came to be called rock and roll.

Although several members of the Comets became famous, Bill Haley remained the star. With his spit curl and the band's matching plaid dinner jackets and energetic stage behavior, many fans consider them to be as revolutionary in their time as The Beatles or The Rolling Stones were a decade later.

Following Haley's death, no fewer than six different groups have existed under the Comets name, all claiming (with varying degrees of authority) to be the official continuation of Haley's group. As of early 2008, three such groups were still performing in the United States and internationally.

2 DVD SET: THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY + LA BAMBA
Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959), known professionally as Buddy Holly, was an American singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll. Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash, Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll."[1] His works and innovations inspired and influenced contemporary and later musicians, notably the Beatles, Elvis Costello, the Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan, and exerted a profound influence on popular music.[2] In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Holly number 13 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.[3]

Richard Steven Valenzuela (May 13, 1941 – February 3, 1959), known as Ritchie Valens, was an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. A rock and roll pioneer and a forefather of the Chicano rock movement, Valens' recording career lasted only eight months.[1] During this time, he had several hits, most notably "La Bamba", which was originally a Mexican folk song. Valens transformed the song into one with a rock rhythm and beat, and it became a hit in 1958,[2][3] making Valens a pioneer of the Spanish-speaking rock and roll movement.

On February 3, 1959, on what has become known as "The Day the Music Died", Valens died in a small-plane crash in Iowa, a tragedy that also claimed the lives of fellow musicians Buddy Holly and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, as well as pilot Roger Peterson. Valens was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

DVD: DR. STRANGELOVE - PETER SELLERS GEORGE C. SCOTT

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, more commonly known simply as Dr. Strangelove, is a 1964 British-American black comedy film which satirizes the nuclear scare. It was directed, produced, and co-written by Stanley Kubrick, stars Peter Sellers and George C. Scott, and features Sterling Hayden, Keenan Wynn, and Slim Pickens. The film is loosely based on Peter George's Cold War thriller novel Red Alert (also known as Two Hours to Doom).

The story concerns an unhinged United States Air Force general who orders a first strike nuclear attack on the Soviet Union. It follows the President of the United States, his advisers, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a Royal Air Force (RAF) officer as they try to recall the bombers to prevent a nuclear apocalypse. It separately follows the crew of one B-52 bomber as they try to deliver their payload.

In 1989, the United States Library of Congress included it in the first group of films selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. It was listed as number three on AFI's 100 Years...100 Laughs list.

DVD: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY - CLINT EASTWOOD
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Italian title: Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo) is a 1966 Italian Spaghetti Western film directed by Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach in the title roles respectively.[3] The screenplay was written by Age & Scarpelli, Luciano Vincenzoni and Leone, based on a story by Vincenzoni and Leone. Director of photography Tonino Delli Colli was responsible for the film's sweeping widescreen cinematography and Ennio Morricone composed the famous film score, including its main theme. It is the third film in the Dollars Trilogy following A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965). The plot revolves around three gunslingers competing to find a fortune in buried Confederate gold amid the violent chaos of gunfights, hangings, American Civil War battles and prison camps.[4] The film was a co-production between companies in Italy, Spain and West Germany.

NEAR MINT! IT EVEN HAS IT'S ORIGINAL ELASTIC HEAD STRAP. OVER 60 YEARS OLD!

SPACE PATROL BINOCULARS 1950S TV SHOW PREMIUM! RARE!

The stories followed the 30th-century adventures of Commander-in-Chief Buzz Corry (Ed Kemmer) of the United Planets Space Patrol and his young sidekick Cadet Happy (Lyn Osborn), as they faced nefarious interplanetary villains with diabolical schemes. Not surprisingly for the time, some of these villains had Russian- or German-sounding accents. Cmdr. Corry and his allies were aided by such nifty sci-fi gadgets as ray guns, "miniature space-o-phones" and "atomolights." Most episodes carried such pulp-magazine titles as "Revolt of the Space Rats" and "The Menace of Planet X." Originally, the Space Patrol's purpose was that of "clearing the space lanes" but gradually evolved into an intergalactic space police and military force charged with keeping the peace. Later day comparisons between the much earlier 1950s Space Patrol and the later years' Star Trek film and television series are inevitable.

HARDCOVER BOOK PLEASE DON'T CALL ME TARZAN SIGNED HERMAN BRIX/BRUCE BENNETT

The Life Story of Herman Brix/Bruce Bennett by Mike Chapman. Loaded with photos and info. Forward by Danton Burroughs. Must have for Edgar Rice Burroughs collectors.

Bruce Bennett (May 19, 1906 – February 24, 2007)[1][2] was an American actor and Olympic silver medalist shot putter. During the 1930s, he went by his real name, Herman Brix (having dropped the first name "Harold").

Brix moved to Los Angeles in 1929 after being invited to compete for the Los Angeles Athletic Club and befriended actor Douglas Fairbanks Jr., who arranged a screen test for him at Paramount.

In 1931, MGM, adapting author Edgar Rice Burroughs's popular Tarzan adventures for the screen, selected Herman Brix to play the title character. Unfortunately, Brix broke his shoulder filming the 1931 football film Touchdown, which also prevented his entry into the 1932 Olympics, still holding the world record for shot put. Swimming champion Johnny Weissmuller replaced Brix and became a major star.

After Ashton Dearholt convinced Burroughs to allow him to form Burroughs-Tarzan Enterprises, Inc., and make a Tarzan serial film, Dearholt cast Brix in the lead. Pressbook copy has it that Burroughs made the choice himself, but, in fact, in his biography, Brix confirmed that Burroughs never even saw him until after the contract was signed, and then only briefly. The film was begun on location in Guatemala, under rugged conditions (jungle diseases and cash shortages were frequent). Brix did his own stunts, including a fall to rocky cliffs below. The Washington Post quoted Gabe Essoe's passage from his book Tarzan of the Movies: "Brix's portrayal was the only time between the silents and the 1960s that Tarzan was accurately depicted in films. He was mannered, cultured, soft-spoken, a well educated English lord who spoke several languages, and didn't grunt."[3]
